An alkyd emulsion for light-duty coatings is synthesized, and the effects of key factors on the preparing of alkyd emulsion are investigated respectively. The results show that the stable alkyd emulsion can be obtained under the following conditions: the viscosity of alkyd resin is 10～15 Pa・s, emulsifying temperature is 70～85 ℃ and emulsion content is 6% of the base alkyd. When the alkyd resin is designed with paulownia oil length of 45% and suitable waterborne drier, the alkyd emulsion exhibits good drying, mechanical properties and water resistance. Moreover, the salt fog resistance of the prepared alkyd emulsion is very close to that of solvent alkyd.
